Cindy McIntire played flute while growing up in the Lynn Public Schools system. After a long hiatus, she began studying classical flute with Cercie Miller, popular jazz musician. Cercie’s encouragement got Cindy out of her living room and into the world of practicing musicians, including Sarah and Bill Smith, who introduced her to traditional music.
Today, Cindy’s repertoire ranges from Celtic music to classical performances with a Russian opera group, from jazz duets with her daughter, Kateri, to contra dances with the Salem Country Orchestra. “For me,” she says, “O’Carolan Etcetera brings together the classical, traditional, and modern influences in my background. The restraint required to play haunting Scottish melodies is as challenging as the energetic Canadian tunes we play. Being a member of O’Carolan Etcetera has helped me grow as a performer.”
