This ensemble of musicians from Boston’s North Shore brings to life the legacy of Turlough O’Carolan (1670–1738), the blind itinerant harpist whose instrumental compositions are the most enduring in the Celtic tradition. They combine his works with other delightful pieces selected from three centuries of traditional music: early English dance tunes that Jane Austen would have known, Irish and Scottish airs, jigs and reels from Old New England that set toes a-tapping, and — not to be missed — French Canadian tunes played on the hurdy gurdy!

This program of music transports listeners to another time and place.

O’Carolan Etcetera was founded in 2006. Current members are Adrienne Howard (fiddle and hurdy gurdy), Cindy McIntire (silver flute, Irish wooden flute, and tin whistle), and Richard Luecke (acoustic and classical guitar).

Their varied programs have entertained audiences at many Boston-area venues, including the Salem Athenaeum, Hamilton Hall, Governors Academy, the Salem Christmas House Tours, Marblehead’s Lee Mansion and Marblehead Arts, Rockport First Night, the Essex Music Festival, the Salem Maritime Fest, Historic New England’s “Tales & Ales,” private parties, farmers markets, and other events.
